What's on at The Canalside Benefice
We are very grateful to the Lion and Fiddle in Hilperton who have given permission for people attending the 8.00am and 10.00am services in St Michael's Church. Parking is also usually available in Hilperton Village Hall, Whaddon Lane. Both are a short walk from the church.
This is an annual national sponsored event raising funds for churches. In Wiltshire the event has raised £1.37m for local churches since 1984. 50% of the money raised goes to the participant’s chosen church and the other half to the Historic Churches Trust. This year’s event takes place on Saturday 14th September from 1000-1800. Participants cycle or walk to as many churches as possible during the day and seek sponsors for doing so. If you would like to take part please contact Michael for sponsor forms etc We also need people to be at each church to sign sponsor forms as people arrive and there is a sign up sheet at back of church.
There is a Book of Remembrance at St Michael’s. It is a beautiful leather bound book given in memory of Vicky Hunt who died in 2005. Inside the book the names of loved ones are entered by a calligrapher showing their full name, their date of birth and date of death. At the moment the book is kept in the safe but in the near future the intention is that the book will be displayed in a specially made cabinet. Each month the page will be turned to show the names of those who passed away in that month over the years. If you would like to remember someone in this way please see Elizabeth Holyoake (or contact Michael Administrator) and she will give you a form to complete with the necessary details. The cost for each entry in the book is £40.
